Four-Way Test
At the beginning of each meeting we remind ourselves of the The Four-Way Test. Therefore, please remember to ask yourself always . . .
Of the things we think, say or do:
- Is it the TRUTH?
- Is it FAIR to all concerned?
- Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
- Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
Reflective Moment - "An investment in knowledge pays the best interest." Benjamin Franklin
Over the years I have had the opportunity to work all over the world while learning so many things about different people, businesses, cultures and people. Though often exciting, challenging and unique, I can say all had one thing in common, they were learning experiences. Whether filming on a reservation in Washington state, in a casino in France, a soundstage in LA or a desert in Mexico, each project spurned my desire to continuing educating myself, maintaining a curiosity about the world, and always seeking further my knowledge.
Walt Whitman's quote "Be curious, not judgmental" is a favorite. It fits in so many facets of life and enables one to always expand their horizon. There are so many interesting opportunities available to us if we take advantage of them. This is much of what being involved in Rotary offers each of us. Our members come from various backgrounds, careers and life experiences. They allow for networking opportunities, mentoring experiences, valuable insights and advice. Make the most of your Rotary membership. Invest in yourself.
With that in mind, I wanted to share a clip from a piece we produce a few months back for West Virginia University's Academy of Mining and Safety. As so many times before, I learned a great deal about an important program that grew from the historical roots of West Virginia, has a state of the art training facility and is a respected leader within the mine safety industry. This program is headed by strong leadership and enthusiastic instructors. I hope you enjoy.
