While membership attraction and engagement is everyone’s responsibility year-round, August had been designated as a month to celebrate Rotary’s greatest asset — our members. Thanks for all that you do, and all you will do in this Rotary year.
E-CLUB PROGRAM
PRESIDING TODAY IS: Bonnie Branciaroli, President
Welcome all – visitors, fellow Rotarians and guests alike to this E-Club program!
Remember the Four-Way Test!
At the beginning of each meeting we remind ourselves of the The Four-Way Test. Therefore, please remember to ask yourself always . . .
Of the things we think, say or do:
- Is it the TRUTH?
- Is it FAIR to all concerned?
- Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
- Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
Reflective Moments
“The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club won't be worth a dime .”
– Babe Ruth
“I am a member of a team, and I rely on the team, I defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the ultimate champion.”
– Mia Hamm
“I kick off every monthly team meeting with 'core value stories' – team members stand up and recognize how another team member exemplified a core value.”
― Jennifer Hyman
Leadership Quotes
“Appraisals are where you get together with your team leader and agree what an outstanding member of the team you are, how much your contribution has been valued, what massive potential you have and, in recognition of all this, would you mind having your salary halved.”
– Theodore Roosevelt
“Any team member, any community member wants and needs to know they count, that they're welcome, and that they're important.”
– Christina Tosi
“Of all the things I've done, the most vital is coordinating those who work with me and aiming their efforts at a certain goal.”
– Walt Disney, founder of Disney

August was rotary Membership Month
I’m sharing during this program information on a recent webinar, a new course in the learning center, and a new resource on corporate membership sent to me from our Regional Representative from Rotary International.
Adelita Stroh, Regional Membership Officer (RMO) from Rotary International, who is responsible for Membership Development, Programs and Member Services, sent this information to me and I thought it pertinent to share with our club members and others who may visit this program.
Adelita will be handing over her responsibilities soon to Audley Knight, who will be joining the team as the newest RMO supporting our Zone 33.
Watch! We Are Rotary: Advancing Women as Leaders webinar
Women account for less than 25 percent of Rotary’s global membership and are underrepresented in leadership positions at every level, but Rotarians are ready to embrace change! Check out a recording of RI's most recent webinar: We Are Rotary: Advancing Women as Leaders.
This webinar:
- Explores the barriers that women face when considering leadership positions
- Challenges the institutional and personal viewpoints that may be limiting women’s advancement
- Discusses the benefits — and necessity – of Rotary being a diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization
- Developes specific actions to take in your clubs and communities
New Preventing Harassment Course
Rotary strives to build a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture. Preventing and addressing harassment is everyone's responsibility. Rotary’s new online course, Preventing Harassment, will explain how Rotary defines harassment, how we handle reports of harassment when it occurs, and what you can do to prevent it.
New Corporate Membership Guide
Diversity and Inclusivity have become key phrases in the growth of membership in Rotary clubs.
At the 2017 Rotary International Convention I listened to an enthusiastic Rotaractor talk to over 20,000 Rotarians about membership, and her one point was so obvious. She said, "If each one of us brought in only one member, our 1.2 million membership would double to 2.4 million."
I thought about that for some time, and realized how simple an equation.
As members of a Rotary Club, think about just sponsoring one member this year. Just one! A best friend, a family member, or a business associate that may benefit from being part of the Rotary family through a Young Professional, Family or Corporate membership plan.
Many clubs in our District 7545 (including ours) have adopted all three of these membership options. If you want to know more, Rotary’s new Guide to Corporate Membership includes information about how corporate membership works and the benefits it offers. This guide also includes different model structures and a template that can be used when connecting with local businesses and organizations about this opportunity. District models can also be found at the new District website: RotaryDistrict7545 in the Downloads section.
If you want to learn even more: Check out Rotary's Club Flexibility webpage for more flexibilty options and let us know where you want our club to go.
Last, but not least, I'll leave you with this information: our club is holding strong in membership retention, and more attention will be given to engagement. The Mountain State Rotary E-Club is embarking on its first fundraiser! Join our team to raise funds to feed kids in Barbour County. We'll be participating in the Tucker County Foundation "Run For It" slated for Saturday, September 28. More information will be coming your way after the Labor Day Holiday.
