Tuesday, December 1 is Giving Tuesday, and what better day to give to OUR foundation, The Rotary Foundation.

It's also the day we can meet our Zone 33 Polio Plus giving challenge of $45 per member for the 2020-2021 Rotary year to help The Rotary Foundation eradicate polio forever.

E-CLUB PROGRAM

PRESIDING TODAY IS: Bonnie Branciaroli, President

bellDing! We’re now in session.

Welcome all – visitors, fellow Rotarians and guests alike to this E-Club program!

Remember the Four-Way Test!

At the beginning of each meeting we remind ourselves of the The Four-Way Test.  Therefore, please remember to ask yourself always . . .

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Reflective Moments

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
       – Mahatma Gandhi

“Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.”
       – Albert Einstein

“A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.”
       ― Greek Proverb

Leadership Quotes

“In the face of a pandemic, the important work of fighting polio must continue. Rotary and its partners have mobilized disease-fighting infrastructure to respond to COVID-19 —while remaining dedicated to eradicating polio.”
       – Hank Sartin - Rotary Voices

“While response to the COVID-19 pandemic is an urgent global health priority, we cannot let our progress against polio backslide. Our recent success in the African region shows that a polio-free world is achievable, but renewed focus and support for ongoing efforts in the two remaining endemic countries must be prioritized in order to deliver on our promise of a polio-free world.”
       –  Michael K. McGovern, chair of Rotary’s International PolioPlus Committee and a member of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) Polio Oversight Board

“We are achingly close to getting rid of polio – more than 99 percent of the way there. Finishing the job is a big challenge, but it is very doable if we keep up the effort.”
       – Bill Gates

Zone 33 RRFC (Regional Rotary Foundation Chair) Nancy Barbee is passionate about the Rotary Foundation. If you ever have a chance to listen to her Foundation presentations, she'll point out at the onset that the Rotary Foundation is OUR foundation.

The Rotary Foundation is a non-profit separate entity from the Rotary International organization that enables Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. How do we do that? With our donations. Our donations to the Rotary Foundation help Rotary International clubs to fund much needed projects through global and district grants; plus our donations to Polio Plus help in the fight to eradicate polio.

On this Giving Tuesday, December 1,

let's consider donating to OUR foundation,

The Rotary Foundation.

I am asking you to donate to Polio Plus on Tuesday, and we are making it easy for you.

Put in the OTHER category the amount of $45,
and the rest is responsively simple. Our club Treasurer will make sure the funds are allocated to the specific cause.

Rotary has been engaged in the worldwide fight against polio since 1985 when the organization launched the Polio Plus program. Polio Plus was the first initiative to tackle global polio eradication through the mass vaccination of children.

To most Americans today, polio (Poliomyelitis), a paralyzing and potentially fatal disease that invades the nervous system and can cause total paralysis in a matter of hours, is not considered a health threat. Cases due to wild poliovirus have decreased by over 99% since 1988, from an estimated 350,000 cases then, to 33 reported cases in 2018. Africa was just recently certification as free of the wild poliovirus. However, as long as a single child remains infected, children in all countries are at risk of contracting the disease.

According to our District Rotary Foundation Chair, Terry Mathias, the Rotary Foundation has been extremely busy, especially responding to COVID-19. Since the pandemic started, the Rotary Foundation has contributed a total of more than $30 million dollars in grants to respond to the effects of the pandemic on communities worldwide. This has severely impacted the Rotary Foundation, and all of us must come together to help OUR Foundation.

Be A Sustaining Member

If you do not give regularly to the Rotary Foundation, please always consider donating the optional $25 listed on your quarterly dues. This $25 goes directly to the Annual Fund to help sustain our Foundation. As a sustaining member, donating $25 per quarter ($100 per year), you are supporting our club in its goal to maintain our 100% Sustaining club status. Your $100 per year also maintains a sustained funding of the Rotary Foundation.

Help our club maintain the goals we aspired to in 2019-2020, (See letter from the Rotary Foundation.) and help our Foundation continue to help our communities through our clubs.

If you are reading this program and are not a member, we welcome you to join. If you are already a Rotarian from another Rotary club consider this Sustaining member option by looking into Rotary Direct.

Rotary Direct is an easy, online donation platform located in Rotary.org and MyRotary. You must have a MyRotary account to use the system. A MyRotary account is simple to activate. Just go to: https://my.rotary.org/en to open an account.

Once your MyRotary account is opened, it’s easy to donate through Rotary Direct, which can be found here: https://www.rotary.org/en/donate
Once you click on Donate, the link connects to https://my.rotary.org/en/donate
Just follow the prompts. You can choose between Annual Fund and Polio. Polio will take your dollars to Polio Plus.
