February is Black History Month and traditionally honors and celebrates extraordinary accomplishments by many African Americans throughout American history. It is imperative to not only appreciate the accomplishment of Black Americans during February but also acknowledge the fact that African American citizens have had to overcome immeasurable odds from the very beginning. May is Youth Service Month
![]() Rotary Clubs around the world work with their Districts and Rotary International to build leadership skills in interested youth through the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program. RYLA is an intensive leadership experience where young people can develop leadership skills while having fun and making connections with other like-minded youth within their region. There are other leadership building organizations as well, and our program today focuses upon OH-WV YLA, the Ohio-West Virginia Youth Leadership Association and the local YLA Leadership Summit at Camp Horseshoe in Tucker County, West Virginia.

In applying the lessons learned from Ebola to COVID-19, the reductions and stagnations in maternal health service provisions will likely contribute to adverse health and mortality outcomes for women and children, particularly in low-and middle-income countries.

Helping OthersI wanted to take time this week to share a film my company recently completed for Glenville State College and their Hidden Promise Scholarship program. The film was submitted to the White House as part of a peer mentoring initiative sponsored by the First Lady. For me, the story told by students at GSC proved to be inspiring and reassuring that even with all the changes in the world, we still have much to be proud of in today’s young people and to the importance to taking time for others.
