February is Black History Month and traditionally honors and celebrates extraordinary accomplishments by many African Americans throughout American history. It is imperative to not only appreciate the accomplishment of Black Americans during February but also acknowledge the fact that African American citizens have had to overcome immeasurable odds from the very beginning. What happens when we begin to have uncomfortable conversations about race? |

Leadership"Honesty and integrity are virtues worth working towards." George WashingtonWhat are the qualities of leadership that can help to make an impact on individual lives and the communities we live in? The last year plus we have seen our lives change dramatically through the devastation of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now as we begin to return to life we led prior to this event, how to adjust to the shared experiences from this time period? What do we no longer take for granted? How do we want to live our lives? Are we more willing to take an active part in shaping our communities through more active participation? |

Washing hands and good hygiene practices have not been thrust into the American public square to this degree in memory. A sports team's community commitment
Although sports teams are often heralded for their talent and for the excitement they offer fans, many athletes quietly give back to their communities in ways far more meaningful. The Pittsburgh Pirates--and their farm teams--offer ample evidence of such contributions, dating back to a challenge by legend Roberto Clemente, who perished on New Year's Eve 1972 while working to serve others.

Helping OthersI wanted to take time this week to share a film my company recently completed for Glenville State College and their Hidden Promise Scholarship program. The film was submitted to the White House as part of a peer mentoring initiative sponsored by the First Lady. For me, the story told by students at GSC proved to be inspiring and reassuring that even with all the changes in the world, we still have much to be proud of in today’s young people and to the importance to taking time for others. I hope you enjoy the piece and please feel free to share with others.
